Alfred Street Baptist Church (ASBC) is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Senior Accountant – Budget to support church-wide and multi-departmental budgeting efforts. This role serves as a key partner to ministry leaders and staff, ensuring accurate budgeting, timely fund requests, and financial accountability that supports effective programming and organizational growth.
This is a full-time, exempt position, which reports directly to the Accounting Manager and will be located in Alexandria, Virginia.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with ministry leaders and departments to develop annual and church-wide program budgets
Train and support leaders on budget policies, processes, and software
Coordinate budget submissions, approvals, and communications
Track budgets, fund requests, expenditures, and generate financial reports
Monitor budget performance and advise on variances, reallocations, and potential over-expenditures
Serve as Finance Department liaison to the Budget Committee
Support post-event reporting and continuous improvement of budgeting practices
Budget development, forecasting, and financial planning
Budget variance analysis and financial reporting
Strong understanding of accounting principles and nonprofit financial practices
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Clear and effective communication of financial information
Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder support
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Ethical handling of confidential and sensitive financial information
Adaptability and continuous improvement mindset
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (MBA preferred)
Minimum of four years of experience in nonprofit and event budgeting
Experience preparing and presenting budget materials to leadership or boards
Proficiency with Excel and accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP)
