Senior Accountant- Budget

Department: Finance
Location: Alexandria, VA

Alfred Street Baptist Church (ASBC) is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Senior Accountant – Budget to support church-wide and multi-departmental budgeting efforts. This role serves as a key partner to ministry leaders and staff, ensuring accurate budgeting, timely fund requests, and financial accountability that supports effective programming and organizational growth.

This is a full-time, exempt position, which reports directly to the Accounting Manager and will be located in Alexandria, Virginia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with ministry leaders and departments to develop annual and church-wide program budgets

  • Train and support leaders on budget policies, processes, and software

  • Coordinate budget submissions, approvals, and communications

  • Track budgets, fund requests, expenditures, and generate financial reports

  • Monitor budget performance and advise on variances, reallocations, and potential over-expenditures

  • Serve as Finance Department liaison to the Budget Committee

  • Support post-event reporting and continuous improvement of budgeting practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (MBA preferred)

  • Minimum of four years of experience in nonprofit and event budgeting

  • Experience preparing and presenting budget materials to leadership or boards

  • Proficiency with Excel and accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP)
